Course Description
This advanced visual communication course covers many traditional design visualization techniques. Emphasis is on developing the ability to efficiently communicate design ideas in a convincing manner using perspective, color, value and lighting to define form.
Detailed Description
The emphasis in Visual Communication IV will be to continue to develop manual sketching skills for ideation as well as become more skilled at making use of the enablers of digital software, such as Photoshop.
Weekly Assignment Structure
Unless otherwise stated, the assignments will be multiple pages of ideation sketches, as well as a few developed sketch renderings based on the week’s lesson.
Typical Weekly Assignment 1: Concept Exploration
Produce an appropriate volume of ideation sketches that extensively explore the aesthetic and conceptual, possibilities of the project. The outcome of this phase should be quality line sketches depicting several design directions and concepts, representing proportional/styling bandwidths.
Typical Weekly Assignment 2: Focused Development/ Design Refinement
Based on review, select concepts for refinement (though you should be scanning all of the hand work.) This phase will require digital rendering. (The level of rendering will be based on the techniques and rendering styles taught each week.) Prepare a number of rendered views of your final design to define your proposal.
